How do I start Pilates?
At the American Dance Institute, we strongly recommend that all of our clients begin with at least one private session. This session is crucial in laying the Pilates method foundation from which you can develop. Following the first session, you and your instructor can evaluate the best course of action for you to meet your needs and goals. Over time, we recommend our clients take a combination and variety of private sessions and group classes.
What can I expect from a first session?
The first session is typically an introduction to the Pilates method and its primary concepts such as core strength. You will also experience some of the equipment used in the Pilates method. It provides an opportunity for you to get specific information regarding your body and goals, and a comfortable environment in which to ask questions. It will be challenging and fun.
What results can I expect to see from the study of Pilates?
With consistent Pilates work, you can expect to feel healthier, improve your posture, and have more energy within a few weeks of study. Over time, you can expect to see and feel more strength and tone, decrease aches and pains, increase flexibility and develop greater stamina. Pilates' benefits also include increased self-awareness, mental focus and an invigorated spirit.
What if I have injuries, can it help me?
The Pilates Method has many variations and approaches available which makes it an exceptional way to rehabilitate from an injury. Pilates can be tailored to fit your personal needs. The instructors at the American Dance Institute have worked successfully in assisting with a physician or physical thearpist directed rehabilitation from a variety of injuries. The staff recommends that you speak with your doctor about Pilates and a course of action to address your injury.
What do I wear to work-out?
Wear comfortable work-out wear, such as a t-shirt and leggings. It is not necessary to wear tight clothing, but clothing that allows for movement and comfort.

The Institute is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 educational organization, which allows us to focus on quality of instruction rather than a profit center. The Institute studios are open, well-lit and comfortable.
How are the instructors trained at the American Dance Institute?
All of the Pilates instructors at the American Dance Institute have completed a comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program of 600+ hours. We continue to study with master teachers and offer continuing education classes for the Pilates community in our area. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program through the Institute, The Articulate Eye Pilates Teacher Training Program.
