Articulate Eye Pilates Teacher Training Course

Faculty

Jennifer Campbell (Articulate Eye Director, American Dance Institute Director of Pilates Programming) was introduced to the Pilates Method as an undergraduate dance major at the University of Colorado in 1990. Through two years of consistent Pilates study, Jennifer experienced dramatic changes in her body and dancing, and more importantly, in her growing sense of self-empowerment. She decided to enter The Pilates Center Teacher Training Program in Boulder, Colorado. Through that program, Jennifer gained valuable knowledge of the classic Pilates Method, and was encouraged to grow in her knowledge of body dynamics and awareness. This encouragement continues to act as a springboard for her teaching.

Upon graduation from both the University of Colorado dance program and The Pilates Center in 1994, Jennifer moved to New York. While there, she benefited greatly by working with Master Pilates instructors, most notably, Romana Kryzanowska. She was also exposed to many styles of Pilates and teaching which helped to clarify her own vision of the work and the importance of thoughtful teaching.

In 1996, Jennifer made the Washington DC area her home and opened Stronger Self Fitness in Bethesda, Maryland. Stronger Self was the first Pilates studio of its kind in the area and grew to be a thriving community-oriented studio that encouraged growth and health in clients and instructors alike. After three years of business, the studio merged with its new partner The American Dance Institute in May of 2001.

Jennifer strongly believes in the power of the Pilates Method. She has witnessed countless triumphs of client’s growth during her ten years of teaching. She finds teaching to be such an honor, a gift to guide clients to a truer sense of strength and freedom in their body, which translates beautifully into one’s life.

Jessica Shinn Fromuth (Lecturer) earned a B.S. in Biology and an MFA in Modern Dance before becoming a Massage Therapist in 1995. Shortly after finishing her massage training she returned to the Potomac Massage Training Institute to teach Anatomy and Physiology, which she taught for four years. She has also taught Anatomy lab courses at Howard Community College. In addition to her interest in Anatomy and the human body, Jessica has been an avid Iyengar Yoga student for the last eight years. Her teaching is informed by her knowledge and experience of the body from three intimately linked perspectives: moving from the inside; palpating from the outside; and observing on the page.

Marcy Schlissel (Lecturer) received her training from the Pilates Center in Boulder, CO in 1999. A former instructor at the American Dance Institute, Marcy now resides in New York City where she teaches at Core Zone Pilates. She studies Bartenieff Fundamentals and Laban Movement Analysis, choreographes and dances. Marcy combines her movement experience as a dance artist with her Pilates instruction resulting in a unique learning experience for her clients.

Jill Studley (Trainee Advisor) brings her livelieness to the program from the American Dance Institute and Stronger Self Fitness. A Pilates teacher for the last seven years, Jill completed her Pilates Teacher Training at The Pilates Center in Boulder, Colorado.
